The lake
Lake braemore was built primarily as a water storage facility for irrigation purposes but toalso be made available to the public for water sports and recreational use.
The facility consist of a total of 25ha of land and includes the main lake area along with otherareas of water set aside primarily for wildlife.
It also includes several wetland areas that have been planted up to enhance water qualityand wildlife habitat.
These areas are still under development and the water level in theseareas is half a meter below their final levels while a lot of the wetland species areestablishing.
There is over 1 km of walking tracks through these areas that also double as an ideal biketrack for Children to explore.
The smaller lake areas are ideal for children to kayack on as they explore around theislands.
There are Kayacks and life jackets on site for use by paying visitors.The main Lake is 13 ha in area and is over 600m long.
When full, the lake holds 750,000 cu. meters of water with the majority of the lake being 10m deep. This water level will drop over the summer months as water is used for irrigation.
The Lake is filled entirely from runoff from the surrounding 100 ha of farmland and takesplace over the winter months. Some dryer winters, they may be insufficient run off tocompletely fill the lake.
The majority of water running into the lake flows through wetlandareas first which helps with water quality.
This facility has been 100% privately funded by the landowners.
